This was exceedingly entertaining… I am Susannah Mathews’s mom and will relate one quick story. Susannah and her brother, Warren, both attended the University of Florida, which was two hours and 15 minutes away. Our youngest child, Patrick, attended the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. After taking him there for his freshman year, I cried from Philadelphia all the way to Washington, DC. What started it all was seeing Patrick sitting alone on a sidewalk with his camping gear to go on the freshman camping trip to the Poconos. He had a fabulous four years, but I think it is the hardest when the youngest one leaves. It’s a passage to a new era.
Been there done that !! It gets better ! Came to Harbour Island for years - rented the original "Ciboney" for years(now, I think), yet ANOTHER "mega manse" on the best of God's islands & the Landing - the best bar ANYWHERE ! We(my late husband David)had drinks with India & David many years ago @ the Best Bar - I dearly Love All your stories THANK YOU !!!!!
Boys coming home from college is quite a difficult chapter .. and still with one living at home the closets spilling over and yes the 50 pairs of shoes that still look and smell like the gooey bottom of the sticky beer floors from the local bar .. the endless tank tops from the frat ... and their new “work clothes “ poorly hung from lack of space .. no curfew .. but back to sleeping with one eye open because you worry .. out of sight out of mind no more ... good times ... it is great to have them back ... different in many ways but great
Best bar on the island! In fact, the guest rooms at The Landing served as inspiration when redecorating our bedroom. You and David did a sensational job designing the hotel. It still remains our all time favorite. And I hope Idle Assembly rum makes it stateside soon!
I would like to trade one pair of sneakers ( avoiding early retirement) for your boots and some rum. I’m as good at math as spelling/grammar. Or a limited edition Felix!
Creative minds need LOTS of space to flourish!!
This post was hilarious and made me very very thirsty! Is the Idle Assembly rum available in the US yet?🍹

I love your stories! I am wishing Felix great success in his clothing line, but until that time, it looks
like he needs his own guest home with a sewing room, photography studio, and very large
bedroom! Now that Amory has moved back into the nest, it seems like he will be taking over
Felix's bedroom for all of his clothing and sneaker collection to expand! It all sounds divine to
me, having grown up an only child, I always sought out friends who had at least six siblings
and a very active homelife! Good luck with your bar! It all sounds like great fun to me!
Loved all the stories.... and the table story...🤣! Those poor girls. Hope the guys made it up to them or they found something equally great.
You've been good sports creating new space with your "empty nest"... 💕
Can't be easy.
